File Previews
Frappe Drive lets you preview many common file types directly in your browser without downloading them first. This makes it easier to quickly review documents, images, videos, and text files from within Drive.
Support for additional file formats continues to expand over time, so newer releases may include previews for more file types.
Quick Preview
Simply click a supported file in Frappe Drive to open it in the built-in previewer without downloading it.
Supported File Types
Frappe Drive currently supports previewing the following categories of files.
Office Documents
- PDF (
application/pdf) - Microsoft Word (.docx)
- Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)
Images
- PNG
- JPG
- GIF
- SVG
- WebP
Videos
Video files can be streamed directly from Frappe Drive. Since Drive does not currently include a video transcoding pipeline, playback depends on the codec used by the video.
Supported video formats include:
- MP4
- WebM
- QuickTime (MOV)
Supported video codecs include:
- H.264
- H.265 (platform dependent)
- AV1 (platform dependent)
Text Files
Most plain text files can be previewed directly in the browser.

Platform Compatibility
Some video codecs rely on browser and operating system support.
- H.264 is widely supported across modern browsers.
- H.265 support depends on the browser and operating system. For example, it is supported in Safari and on Windows and macOS versions of Chrome where the required codecs are available.
- AV1 support varies depending on browser and hardware capabilities.
