Create a Dashboard

Dashboards allow you to organize charts, filters, and text blocks into a single interactive view. They provide a centralized place to monitor key metrics, explore data, and share insights with your team.

Prerequisite

Before creating a dashboard, ensure that you have created at least one chart in your workbook. Dashboards display existing charts and do not generate data on their own.

Create a New Dashboard

  1. Open the Dashboards Tab
    • Navigate to your workbook.
    • Open the Dashboards tab.
    • Click the + icon to create a new dashboard.
  2. Name the Dashboard
    • Click the dashboard title.
    • Enter a descriptive name such as Sales Overview or Monthly Performance.
  3. Add Dashboard Components
    • Click Add Chart to insert visualizations.
    • Click Add Filter to create interactive filters.
    • Click Add Text to include headings, descriptions, or notes.
  4. Arrange the Layout
    • Drag components to reposition them.
    • Resize items using the resize handle.
    • Components automatically align to the dashboard grid.
  5. Save the Dashboard
    • Changes are saved automatically.
    • Click Done when you finish editing.
    • Use the Share button to grant access to other users.

Dashboard Components

Charts

Charts are the primary building blocks of a dashboard. They visualize the data generated by your queries and help users quickly understand trends and performance.

Add Charts

  1. Click Add Chart.
  2. Select one or more charts from your workbook.
  3. The selected charts are added to the dashboard.

Manage Charts

  • Move – Drag the chart to a new position.
  • Resize – Drag the resize handle to adjust its dimensions.
  • Expand – Open the chart in a larger view.
  • Edit – Modify the chart configuration.
  • Remove – Delete the chart from the dashboard.

Best Practice

Place the most important charts near the top of the dashboard and group related visualizations together to improve readability.

Filters

Dashboard filters allow viewers to interact with multiple charts simultaneously, making it easy to explore different subsets of data.

How Filters Work

  • A single filter can control multiple charts.
  • Users can change filter values to update all linked charts simultaneously.
  • Filters are commonly used for dates, regions, products, departments, and categories.

Add a Filter

  1. Click Add Filter.
  2. Enter a descriptive label.
  3. Select the filter type.
  4. Choose the charts that the filter should control.
  5. Select the corresponding field for each linked chart.
  6. Click Apply.

Supported Filter Types

Text Filter

Filter categorical values such as products, regions, names, or statuses.

  • Supports operators such as Equals, Contains, Starts With, and In List.
Number Filter

Filter numeric values such as quantities, IDs, scores, or sales amounts.

  • Supports Equals, Greater Than, Less Than, and Between.
Date Filter

Filter data using dates or date ranges.

  • Supports specific dates, custom ranges, and relative periods such as Last 7 Days or This Month.

Tip

Keep filters at the top of the dashboard and limit them to the most commonly used fields. Too many filters can make dashboards harder to use.

Text Blocks

Text blocks allow you to add context, explanations, instructions, and section headings to your dashboard.

Add a Text Block

  1. Click Add Text.
  2. Enter or paste your content.
  3. Format the text using the built-in editor.
  4. Click outside the editor or select Done to save.

Common Uses

  • Dashboard titles and section headings.
  • Descriptions of charts or KPIs.
  • Instructions for using dashboard filters.
  • Business notes or important assumptions.
  • Last updated information.

Formatting Options

  • Bold, italic, and underline.
  • Bulleted and numbered lists.
  • Multiple heading levels.
  • Hyperlinks.

Best Practice

Use text blocks sparingly to provide helpful context without distracting from the visualizations. A brief introduction and clear section headings are usually sufficient.
