Configure Team Permissions
Insights provides team-based access control to help you manage who can view and work with resources such as workbooks, dashboards, queries, and data sources. By enabling permissions, administrators can restrict access to authorized users and teams while maintaining secure collaboration.
Only users with the appropriate administrative permissions can configure team access settings. User Permissions are supported only for Frappe Site data sources.
Step 1: Enable Team Permissions
Before assigning access to teams, you must enable the permission system.
- Open Settings.
- Navigate to Permissions.
- Enable the toggle “Enable permissions to restrict access…”.
- This activates team-based access control for Insights resources.
Step 2: Enable User Permissions
For Frappe Site data sources, you can also enforce the application’s existing role-based permissions.
- Enable the “Apply User Permissions” option.
- This applies Frappe’s built-in user and role permissions in addition to team permissions.
- User Permissions are applied only to Frappe Site data sources and are not supported for external databases.
Use Team Permissions to control which users can access Insights resources, and enable User Permissions when working with Frappe Site data sources to automatically respect existing role-based access rules.
How Permissions Work
- Team Permissions control access to Insights resources such as workbooks, dashboards, charts, queries, and data sources.
- User Permissions add an additional security layer by enforcing Frappe’s existing document-level access rules.
- External databases rely only on Team Permissions, as Frappe User Permissions are not available for those data sources.
If Team Permissions are disabled, Insights resources are accessible according to the default sharing and visibility settings. Enabling Team Permissions allows administrators to restrict access based on teams and user assignments.
