What the Stock Balance Report Shows

The Stock Balance report summarizes inventory information for each Item and Location, including:

  • Available stock quantity
  • Current inventory value
  • Valuation rate
  • Opening quantity and value
  • Location-wise inventory balances

Report Filters

The Stock Balance report includes filters that help you analyze inventory for specific items, locations, or reporting periods.

Filter Description
Item Displays stock information for the selected inventory item.
Location Shows inventory available at the selected warehouse or location.
From Date Calculates the opening stock quantity and opening inventory value from the selected date.
To Date Calculates stock balances up to the selected reporting date. Transactions after this date are ignored.

Understanding the Date Filters

The reporting period determines how inventory balances are calculated.

  • From Date: Establishes the starting point for calculating opening quantity and opening inventory value.
  • To Date: Includes inventory transactions only up to the selected date when calculating stock balances.

Transactions occurring after the selected To Date are excluded from the report.

Troubleshooting Negative Stock

If you encounter an Insufficient Quantity error while creating backdated inventory transactions, the Stock Balance report can help identify the cause.

Adjust the To Date filter to review stock balances before and after the affected transaction date. This makes it easier to identify future transactions that may result in negative inventory.

Best Practices

  • Review Stock Balance regularly to monitor inventory availability.
  • Filter by Location when managing stock across multiple warehouses.
  • Use Item filters to quickly verify available quantities before processing orders.
  • Check historical balances using the date filters when investigating inventory discrepancies.
  • Use the report to identify future negative stock before submitting backdated inventory transactions.
