User Roles in Frappe Learning
Frappe Learning uses role-based permissions to ensure users have access only to the features they need. This approach helps maintain security while making course management and learning simple for everyone.
Understanding User Roles
Each user is assigned one or more roles that determine what actions they can perform within the Learning platform. Administrators can assign roles based on each user’s responsibilities.
Available Roles

| LMS Student | Browse courses, enroll in batches, access lessons, and participate in learning activities. | Students and learners. |
| Course Creator | Create, edit, organize, and manage courses, chapters, lessons, and learning content. | Instructors, trainers, and course authors. |
| Batch Evaluator | Manage batches, conduct live classes, review submissions, and evaluate assignments. | Teaching assistants and evaluators. |
| Moderator | Full administrative access to users, courses, settings, and platform-wide content. | System administrators. |
Managing User Roles
Administrators can assign or update user roles from either of the following locations:
- Learning Portal: Navigate to Settings → My Profile and open the user’s profile.
- Desk: Open the User DocType to manage roles and permissions.
Users can have multiple roles if their responsibilities require access to different parts of the platform.
Role Assignment Best Practices
- Assign users only the permissions they need.
- Review role assignments regularly.
- Grant administrative privileges only to trusted users.
- Use separate roles for instructors, evaluators, and administrators to maintain clear access boundaries.
Moderators have unrestricted access to create, edit, and delete content across the entire platform. In addition, Course Creators can upload SCORM packages, which may execute code during use. Assign these roles only to trusted users and follow the principle of least privilege whenever possible.
Frappe Learning includes four primary roles LMS Student, Course Creator, Batch Evaluator, and Moderator to provide controlled access across the platform. Proper role management helps protect your LMS while ensuring each user has the permissions needed to perform their responsibilities.
