Creating Chapters

A Chapter is the second level in the Frappe Learning course hierarchy. Chapters help organize lessons into logical sections, making courses easier to navigate and learn. If you’re migrating from another Learning Management System (LMS), you can also import entire SCORM packages as chapters.

Chapter Types

  • Standard Chapter – Contains one or more individual lessons.
  • SCORM Chapter – Contains an uploaded SCORM package as the chapter’s complete content.

Standard Chapter

A Standard Chapter is the most commonly used chapter type. It acts as a container for lessons such as videos, articles, quizzes, assignments, and other learning materials.

Step 1: Open the Course

Navigate to the course where you want to add a chapter.

Step 2: Add a New Chapter

Click the + Add button on the right side of the course page.

Step 3: Enter Chapter Details

Provide a descriptive title for the chapter.

Step 4: Create the Chapter

Click Create. The new chapter will be added to your course, and you can immediately begin adding lessons.

Best Practice

Organize each chapter around a single topic or learning objective. This makes courses easier to navigate and improves the learner experience.

SCORM Chapter

If you already have learning content packaged as a SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) package, you can upload it directly as a chapter.

Security Notice

SCORM packages typically contain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that execute within the learner’s browser session. Because SCORM relies on client-side scripts to function correctly, Course Creators should only upload SCORM packages obtained from trusted sources.

Step 1: Start Creating a Chapter

Inside the course, click the + Add button.

Step 2: Enable SCORM Package

Turn on the SCORM Package option.

Step 3: Enter Chapter Information

Provide a title for the chapter and upload the SCORM ZIP package.

Step 4: Create the Chapter

Click Create. After the upload is complete, the SCORM package becomes the chapter content and is ready for learners.

Important

Unlike standard chapters, SCORM chapters cannot contain individual lessons. The uploaded SCORM package represents the entire chapter and manages its own navigation and learning content.

Choosing the Right Chapter Type

Chapter Type Best Used For Supports Lessons
Standard Chapter Creating courses directly in Frappe Learning. Yes
SCORM Chapter Migrating or reusing existing SCORM-based learning content. No
Summary

Every course is organized into chapters. Standard chapters group individual lessons created within Frappe Learning, while SCORM chapters allow you to import complete SCORM learning packages. Choose the chapter type based on how your course content is created and managed.
