Programming Exercises
Programming Exercises provide an interactive coding environment where learners can write, test, and validate their solutions directly in the browser. They are automatically evaluated against predefined test cases, making them ideal for programming courses and technical assessments.
Create a Programming Exercise
To create and manage coding exercises:
- Navigate to Programming Exercises from the sidebar.
- Click the + Create button.
- Enter a Title for the exercise.
- Click Save.
Configure the Exercise
After saving, configure the technical details of the exercise.
Programming Language
Select the programming language learners will use to solve the problem, such as Python.
Problem Statement
Provide a detailed description of the coding challenge, including objectives, requirements, constraints, and any additional instructions learners should follow.
Test Cases
Create one or more test cases by defining:
- Input – The data supplied to the learner’s program.
- Expected Output – The correct result that the solution should produce.
These test cases are used to automatically validate learner submissions.
Student Experience
When learners open a Programming Exercise, they are presented with an integrated code editor directly within the Learning Portal.
Students Can
- Write code directly in the browser.
- Edit and update their solution at any time.
- Run their code against the configured test cases.
- Verify whether their solution produces the expected output.
Automatic Evaluation
When learners click the Run button, Frappe Learning executes their solution and compares the output against the predefined test cases. This provides immediate feedback and helps learners refine their code before final submission.
Review Student Submissions
Instructors can review learner attempts by opening the Submission List available at the top of the Programming Exercise page.
The Submission List allows instructors to:
- View all learner submissions.
- Review the submitted source code.
- Monitor learner participation.
- Evaluate coding performance.
Well-designed test cases are essential for accurate automatic grading. Include a variety of normal, boundary, and edge-case inputs to thoroughly evaluate learner solutions.
Programming Exercises enable learners to practice coding in a live browser-based environment while receiving immediate feedback through automated test cases. Instructors can create coding challenges, define evaluation criteria, and review all submissions from a centralized interface.
