Workspace is the default page displayed after logging into ERPNext. It provides a customizable interface where users can organize shortcuts, reports, dashboards, charts, and other components according to their daily workflow. Workspaces can be public for all users or private for individual users.

  • Create private and public workspaces.
  • Supports parent and child workspaces.
  • Customize layouts using workspace blocks.
  • Arrange workspaces using the sidebar.
Navigation
After logging into ERPNext, the Workspace page opens automatically.

Create a New Workspace

Create a personalized workspace for frequently used documents, reports, dashboards, and shortcuts.

  1. Click Create Workspace.
  2. Enter the workspace Title.
  3. Click Create.
Newly created workspaces are private by default and appear under MY WORKSPACES.

Create a Child Workspace

Child workspaces allow you to organize related workspaces under a parent workspace for better navigation.

  1. Click Create Workspace.
  2. Enter the workspace Title.
  3. Select a parent workspace in the Parent field (for example, Home).
  4. Click Create.
Child workspaces help group related modules and simplify navigation for large ERP implementations.

Workspace Blocks

Every workspace is built using reusable Workspace Blocks. These blocks can be arranged in different layouts to create dashboards that suit specific business processes.

Workspace Blocks Can Include

  • Shortcuts
  • Reports
  • Charts
  • Cards
  • Number Cards
  • Quick Lists
  • Custom Sections
Combine multiple block types to build role-specific workspaces for departments such as Sales, Accounts, Manufacturing, or HR.

Workspace Sidebar

The Workspace sidebar provides quick access to all available workspaces and allows users to rearrange them according to their preferences.

Section Description
MY WORKSPACES Contains private workspaces visible only to the logged-in user.
PUBLIC Contains standard and shared workspaces that are available to all users.
You can create multiple private workspaces, while public workspaces are shared across users.
Permission Required
Only users with the Workspace Manager role can create, edit, or delete public workspaces.

Workspace Customization

Workspaces support two operating modes:

  • Read Only Mode
  • Edit Mode

Click the Edit button to begin customizing the workspace layout.

You Can Customize

  • Block arrangement
  • Workspace layout
  • Displayed shortcuts
  • Charts and reports
  • Cards and quick links
Important
Customizing the Workspace itself is different from customizing the Workspace Page. Each provides a different level of configuration.
Best Practice
Avoid adding new blocks directly from the Workspace document because the system cannot automatically determine their placement. Instead, use the Workspace Builder interface to add, move, resize, and organize blocks.

Benefits of Workspaces

  • Create dashboards tailored to specific business roles.
  • Provide quick access to frequently used documents and reports.
  • Improve productivity by reducing navigation time.
  • Organize modules using parent and child workspaces.
  • Allow users to personalize their ERPNext experience.
