Frappe Provider
The Frappe Provider is Frappe’s initiative to build and operate its own cloud infrastructure instead of relying entirely on public cloud providers. By managing its own infrastructure stack, Frappe aims to gain greater control over performance, scalability, and future platform development.
Why Frappe Provider?
Traditionally, Frappe Cloud has relied on infrastructure provided by public cloud platforms such as AWS, Oracle Cloud, and Hetzner. The Frappe Provider represents a shift toward a more decentralized approach where Frappe manages its own compute infrastructure.
This gives the platform greater ownership over the underlying infrastructure while reducing dependence on third-party cloud providers.
What Does “Compute” Mean?
In Frappe Cloud, compute refers to the virtual machines used to host customer workloads.
Each server created on Frappe Cloud is essentially a virtual machine that provides the processing power, memory, and storage required to run your applications.
- A server is equivalent to a virtual machine.
- Virtual machines host benches, sites, databases, and supporting services.
- The Frappe Provider supplies this compute infrastructure directly instead of using public cloud providers.
How It Works
Frappe is developing its own cloud infrastructure platform that runs on rented physical hardware. Instead of purchasing virtual machines from public cloud providers, Frappe provisions and manages its own virtualization layer and infrastructure stack.
This approach provides greater flexibility for infrastructure management while allowing the platform to evolve independently.
Can It Be Used for Production?
At the current stage, the Frappe Provider is not recommended for production workloads.
The platform is still under active development, and important capabilities such as comprehensive backups, data replication, and additional reliability features are still being built.
Since the platform is still evolving, Frappe does not currently guarantee production-level uptime, backup availability, or data durability. It is recommended only for testing, experimentation, and evaluation until these capabilities are fully implemented.
