Goal in Frappe HR: Setting & Tracking Employee Goals

A Goal is a specific, measurable objective set for an employee. Goals turn broad expectations into concrete targets you can track over time, and they tie into appraisals an employee’s progress on their goals feeds the goal score in their review.

You will find it under Home > Human Resources > Performance > Goal.

BEFORE YOU START

You’ll need the Employee the goal is for. If you want the goal to map to a Key Result Area, have the relevant KRA (from an Appraisal Template) ready to link.

How to create a Goal

  1. Open the Goal list and click New.
  2. Enter the Goal (a clear, specific objective) and select the Employee.
  3. Link the KRA it supports, if applicable.
  4. Set the Start Date and End Date.
  5. Track Progress (%) and set the Status (such as Pending, In Progress, or Completed) as work moves along.
  6. Save.

Goals and sub-goals

Goals can be arranged in a hierarchy  a larger goal broken into smaller sub-goals under a parent. This lets you split a big objective into manageable steps, and progress on the sub-goals gives a clear picture of how the overall goal is tracking.

How goals feed appraisals

Because goals can be linked to the KRAs in an appraisal, the progress on those goals contributes to the goal score in the employee’s Appraisal. Keeping goal progress up to date through the period means the appraisal’s goal score reflects real achievement when the review comes around.

TIP

Set goals at the start of the appraisal period and update their progress regularly rather than scrambling at review time. Continuous tracking gives both employee and manager an honest, running view of performance and makes the final appraisal far less of a surprise.

SUMMARY

A Goal is a specific, measurable objective set for an employee and tracked over a period. Create one with a clear objective, the employee, an optional linked KRA, dates, progress, and status. Goals can be broken into sub-goals under a parent for larger objectives, and because they link to appraisal KRAs, their progress feeds the goal score in the employee’s Appraisal. Setting goals early and updating progress regularly keeps reviews accurate.
