Leave Period in Frappe HR: Setting the Period for Leave Allocation
A Leave Period is the span of time over which leaves are allocated and tracked most often a financial or calendar year. Leave Policy Assignments and Leave Allocations are tied to a leave period, so it sets the boundaries within which an employee’s entitlements apply.
You will find it under Home > Human Resources > Leaves > Leave Period.
BEFORE YOU START
Make sure your Company is set up, since a leave period is defined against a company.
How to create a Leave Period
- Open the Leave Period list and click New.
- Set the From Date and To Date that define the period (for example, 1 April to 31 March).
- Select the Company the period applies to.
- Tick Is Active so the period is available for allocations.
- Optionally set an Optional Holiday List, a list of optional or restricted holidays employees may choose from during this period.
- Save.
Granting leaves for the period
Once a Leave Period exists, it becomes the timeframe you allocate against. You can grant leaves to employees for the period based on a Leave Policy, so everyone covered by that policy receives their entitlements for that span in one go rather than being allocated individually.
TIP
Align the Leave Period with whatever cycle your leave policy runs on usually your financial year. Keeping the period, the holiday list, and the policy on the same yearly cycle makes allocations, carry-forward, and reporting line up cleanly.

SUMMARY
A Leave Period defines the timeframe usually a financial or calendar year over which leaves are allocated and tracked. Create one with a From Date, To Date, and Company, mark it Active, and optionally attach an Optional Holiday List. Leave Policy Assignments and allocations reference the period, and you can grant leaves to employees against a leave policy for that span. Keep the period aligned with your policy and holiday list cycle for clean allocations and reporting.
