Compensatory Leave Request in Frappe HR: Comp-Off for Working on Holidays

A Compensatory Leave Request lets an employee claim leave in return for working on a holiday the familiar “comp-off”. When someone puts in a day on what should have been a day off, this request grants them an equivalent leave to take later, once it’s approved.

You will find it under Home > Human Resources > Leaves > Compensatory Leave Request.

BEFORE YOU START

Have these ready: the Employee, a Leave Type marked as Is Compensatory, attendance marked as present for the employee on the holiday they worked, and a Leave Approver.

How to create a Compensatory Leave Request

  1. Open the Compensatory Leave Request list and click New.
  2. Select the Employee.
  3. Set the Work From Date and Work End Date the holiday day(s) actually worked.
  4. Select the compensatory Leave Type.
  5. For a half day, tick Half Day and set the half-day date.
  6. Add a Reason and select the Leave Approver.
  7. Save, then Submit.

Once approved, the request allocates the compensatory leave to the employee, adding to their balance for that compensatory leave type so they can apply for it like any other leave.

COMMON MISTAKE

The request only works if the employee actually has attendance marked present on the holiday in question. If there’s no present attendance for those dates, the comp-off can’t be validated, so make sure the holiday attendance is recorded first.

TIP

Keep one dedicated Leave Type flagged Is Compensatory (for example, “Compensatory Off”) and route all comp-off through it. That keeps earned comp-offs separate from regular entitlements and makes them easy to track and report on.

SUMMARY

A Compensatory Leave Request grants an employee comp-off for working on a holiday. With a compensatory Leave Type, present attendance on the worked holiday, and a leave approver in place, create the request by selecting the employee, the work dates, the compensatory leave type, an optional half day, a reason, and an approver, then submit. On approval it allocates the compensatory leave to the employee’s balance. The employee must have attendance marked present on the holiday for the request to be valid.
