Employee Onboarding in Frappe HR: Managing New Hire Onboarding
Employee Onboarding manages the process of bringing a new hire into the organisation. It generates a checklist of onboarding activities paperwork, IT setup, introductions, and the rest and tracks them to completion, so nothing about a new joiner’s first days slips through the cracks.
You will find it under Home > Human Resources > Employee Lifecycle > Employee Onboarding.
BEFORE YOU START
Create an Employee Onboarding Template first (the reusable list of onboarding activities), and have the Job Applicant or new Employee, along with the Company, Department, and Designation, ready.
How to create an Employee Onboarding
- Open the Employee Onboarding list and click New.
- Select the Job Applicant (or the new Employee) being onboarded.
- Set the Date of Joining and fill in the Company, Department, Designation, and Employee Grade.
- Select the Employee Onboarding Template its activities load into the onboarding.
- Set when Boarding Begins On.
- Save, then Submit.
Activities and tasks
The onboarding’s activities come from the template each one with the person or role responsible and a duration. As these are worked through, the onboarding tracks progress, so you can see at a glance which steps are done and which are still pending for the new hire.
From onboarding to an Employee record
Employee Onboarding ties the joining process together: it starts from the accepted candidate and runs through their setup activities. As onboarding completes, the Employee record is created so the new joiner exists fully in the system, ready for attendance, payroll, and everything else.
TIP
Put the real onboarding steps into your template once IT account, ID card, policy sign-off, team intro with the right owner for each. Every new hire then gets the same complete, accountable onboarding without anyone rebuilding the checklist from memory.

SUMMARY

Create it from a job applicant or new employee with the joining date, company, department, designation, and grade, and an Employee Onboarding Template that loads the activities each with an owner and duration. Progress is tracked as steps complete, and the process leads to the Employee record being created. A well-built template gives every joiner the same complete, accountable onboarding.
