Employee Promotion in Frappe HR: Recording Employee Promotions
An Employee Promotion records an employee moving up a new designation, grade, or salary effective from a promotion date. Rather than quietly editing the Employee record, you capture the change as a dated, auditable event that’s applied to the employee when the promotion takes effect.
You will find it under Home > Human Resources > Employee Lifecycle > Employee Promotion.
BEFORE YOU START
You’ll need the Employee being promoted, and a clear idea of exactly what’s changing — designation, grade, salary, and so on.
How to create an Employee Promotion
- Open the Employee Promotion list and click New.
- Select the Employee.
- Set the Promotion Date the day the change takes effect.
- In the Promotion Details table, add a row for each change: the Property (such as Designation or Grade), its Current value, and the New value.
- Save, then Submit.
How the changes apply
The promotion’s details are applied to the Employee record on the promotion date. That timing matters: it means the employee’s master is updated when the promotion actually takes effect, not the moment you record it so a promotion entered in advance simply activates on the right day.
NOTE
Recording promotions through this document rather than editing the Employee record directly keeps a dated history of every promotion. That history is invaluable for understanding an employee’s career progression and for audits.
TIP
If a promotion comes with a pay change, include the salary-related property in the details so the Employee record reflects it from the promotion date. Keeping the promotion and the pay change together avoids a mismatch between someone’s new role and their salary.

SUMMARY
An Employee Promotion records an employee’s promotion as a dated event. Create one by selecting the employee, setting the promotion date, and listing each change in the Promotion Details table with its current and new value, then submit. The changes apply to the Employee record on the promotion date, so promotions can be entered ahead of time and activate on the right day — while keeping a clear, auditable history of every promotion.
