Print Format Builder
Print Format Builder allows you to quickly create and customize simple print layouts without writing code. Using its drag-and-drop interface, you can arrange fields, add custom text or HTML, and design print formats tailored to your business requirements.
The default Standard Print Format is system-generated and cannot be edited.
Accessing Print Format Builder
Navigate to:
Home → Settings → Print Format Builder
You can also open the Print Format Builder directly from any document while viewing its print preview.
Method 1: Using the Print Format Builder Menu
Step 1: Open Print Format Builder
Go to the Print Format Builder from the Settings module.
Step 2: Select a Print Format
- Create a new Print Format for any DocType.
- Or select an existing custom Print Format to modify.
Step 3: Edit the Layout
Click Edit to open the drag-and-drop designer.
Within the builder you can:
- Drag fields from the sidebar onto the page.
- Rearrange existing fields.
- Remove fields by dragging them back to the sidebar.
- Organize the layout according to your printing requirements.
Step 4: Save the Changes
After completing the layout, click Save to apply your changes.
Changes are applied only to the selected custom Print Format and do not modify the system’s Standard Print Format.
Method 2: Accessing Print Format Builder from a Document
- Open the document you want to customize.
- Click the Print icon or navigate to Menu → Print.
- Click Customize.
You must have System Manager permissions to customize Print Formats from a document.
Working with Fields
The builder provides a visual interface for arranging document fields.
Add Fields
- Drag a field from the left sidebar into the layout.
- Place it wherever required.
Edit Fields
- Click the settings icon of a field or section.
- Modify its display properties and layout.
Remove Fields
- Drag the field back to the sidebar to remove it from the layout.
Adding Custom HTML
The Print Format Builder allows you to insert static content such as company notes, instructions, formatted text, or custom HTML.
- Drag the Custom HTML component into the layout.
- Position it where required.
- Click Edit HTML.
- Enter your HTML or formatted content.
- Save the changes.
Custom HTML is useful for adding branding, disclaimers, signatures, instructions, or other static content that is not stored as document fields.
