Packing Slip

A Packing Slip is a document that provides a detailed list of items included in a shipment. It is typically attached to the physical goods being delivered and helps verify the contents of each package.

In ERPNext, Packing Slips are used to break down a single Delivery Note into multiple shipment packages, making it easier to manage large or multi-box deliveries.

1. Prerequisites

Before creating a Packing Slip, ensure that the following document exists, as it serves as the base for shipment details.

  • Delivery Note should be created and contain the list of items to be shipped.
Important Note

Packing Slips can only be generated from a Delivery Note that is in Draft status.

2. How to create a Packing Slip

  • Go to Stock > Tools > Packing Slip and click on New.
  • Select the Delivery Note from which packing details will be fetched.
  • Specify the From Package No to identify the starting package in the shipment sequence.
  • Click Get Items to automatically fetch item details from the Delivery Note.
  • Review and save the Packing Slip.

If created directly from a Delivery Note, most details are automatically populated, reducing manual effort and errors.

3. Multiple Packing Slips from One Delivery

ERPNext allows multiple Packing Slips to be created from a single Delivery Note. This is useful when items are shipped in multiple boxes or cartons.

For example, if 20 chairs are shipped, they can be split into 4 boxes with 5 chairs each, and each box can have its own Packing Slip.

4. Package Numbering

Packing Slips support sequential package numbering using “From Package No” and “To Package No” fields.
This helps identify and organize multiple packages within a single shipment.

5. Features

5.1 Items Table

  • Batch numbers must be selected for batched items.
  • Quantity, UoM, and weight details are automatically fetched from the Delivery Note.
  • Page Break option allows structured printing across multiple pages.

5.2 Weight Details

Packing Slips include both net and gross weight calculations for accurate shipment documentation.

  • Net Weight: Total weight of items only.
  • Gross Weight: Includes packaging material weight.
  • Weight UOM: Unit of measurement for total shipment weight.

5.3 Letterhead Support

Packing Slips can be printed using a company letterhead, making them suitable for professional shipment documentation.
