BOM Stock Analysis
BOM Stock Analysis is a manufacturing report in ERPNext that helps determine whether sufficient raw materials are available to manufacture a finished product based on its Bill of Materials (BOM). It provides complete visibility into material availability, shortages, procurement requirements, and the maximum quantity that can be produced using the available inventory.
The report supports two analysis modes depending on whether you want to evaluate a specific production target or determine the maximum production possible with the current stock.
Accessing the Report
To open the report, navigate to:
Home > Manufacturing > Reports > BOM Stock Analysis
Analysis Modes
ERPNext provides two different modes for analyzing raw material availability.
- Detailed Mode – Evaluates material availability for a specified production quantity.
- Summarised Mode – Calculates the maximum number of finished goods that can be produced with the available inventory.
Detailed Mode
Detailed Mode is useful when you already know how many finished goods you intend to manufacture and want to verify whether sufficient raw materials are available.
The report provides detailed information including:
- Required raw material quantities.
- Available stock.
- Material shortages.
- Purchase rates for missing materials.
- Maximum producible finished goods.
Entering a value in the FG Item to Make field automatically switches the report to Detailed Mode.
Maximum Producible Quantity
The report calculates the maximum number of finished goods that can be manufactured based on the available raw materials.
ERPNext visually indicates the production status:
- Green – Available materials are sufficient to manufacture the required quantity.
- Red – Available materials are insufficient, and the maximum producible quantity is lower than the required production quantity.
This allows production planners to immediately identify whether procurement is required before manufacturing can begin.
Summarised Mode
Summarised Mode is intended for quickly determining production capacity without defining a production target.
Instead of specifying the quantity to manufacture, users simply select:
- The Bill of Materials (BOM).
- The Warehouse.
The report then calculates the maximum quantity of finished goods that can currently be produced using the available inventory.
This mode is particularly useful for answering questions such as:
- How many finished goods can be produced right now?
- What is the current production capacity based on available stock?
- Which BOMs are immediately manufacturable?
To use Summarised Mode, leave the FG Item to Make field empty and specify the BOM and Warehouse. ERPNext automatically calculates the maximum production capacity based on available materials.
