Renaming Documents in ERPNext

ERPNext provides a Renaming feature that allows you to change the name of a master document. This is useful when correcting naming errors or standardizing records.

You can also use this feature to merge two master documents into one by renaming one document to match another existing record.

To see which documents support renaming, refer to the List of Renamable Documents.

Steps to Rename a Document

Step 1: Open the Document

Go to the document you want to rename.

Step 2: Use the Rename Option

From the dropdown menu, select Rename.

Alternatively, you can click on the document title, which opens a popup allowing you to edit and rename the document.

Effect of Renaming

Renaming a document updates its name across all linked transactions. For example, if you rename an Item, all sales, purchase, and stock transactions linked to that Item will automatically reflect the updated name.
