Lead

A Lead represents a potential customer who has shown interest in your products or services but has not yet become a qualified sales opportunity or customer. Leads are the starting point of the sales pipeline and allow organizations to capture, organize, and nurture potential business relationships.

Leads can originate from various marketing and sales activities, such as website inquiries, advertising campaigns, referrals, trade shows, email marketing, social media, or direct customer interactions. Every lead represents a potential business opportunity that can eventually progress into an Opportunity, Quotation, Customer, and ultimately a Sales Order.

Managing Leads effectively helps sales teams track every interaction, qualify prospects, prioritize follow-ups, and improve conversion rates throughout the sales process.

Business Benefit

Lead management provides a centralized location to capture prospect information, maintain communication history, schedule follow-ups, and monitor every stage of the customer acquisition process.

Lead Status

The Status field indicates the current stage of a Lead in the sales process. Some statuses are updated manually, while others are automatically updated as related CRM documents are created.

Lead

This is the default status assigned when a new Lead is created. It indicates that the Lead has been captured and requires further action from the sales team.

Open

Indicates that the Lead is ready for initial contact and follow-up by a sales representative.

Replied

This status indicates that the sales representative has responded to the Lead and is awaiting further communication from the prospect.

Opportunity

When an Opportunity is created from the Lead, ERPNext automatically updates the Lead status to Opportunity, indicating that the prospect has been qualified for further sales activities.

Quotation

When a Quotation is generated for the Lead, the status changes to Quotation, indicating that a commercial proposal has been shared with the prospect.

Lost Quotation

If the quotation is marked as lost, ERPNext updates the Lead status to Lost Quotation.

Interested

Indicates that the Lead has expressed interest in the products or services but has not yet progressed further in the sales cycle.

Converted

Once a quotation results in a confirmed Sales Order, the Lead is automatically marked as Converted, indicating successful conversion into a customer.

Do Not Contact

This status indicates that the prospect is not interested in further communication and should no longer receive follow-up activities.

Important

The Lead Status provides complete visibility into where every prospect currently stands in the sales pipeline, helping sales teams prioritize their follow-up activities.
