Project Views in ERPNext

Since projects are time-sensitive, ERPNext provides multiple visual views to help users understand task progress, timelines, and execution stages more effectively. These views make it easier to manage complex workflows by presenting task data in structured and intuitive formats.

Apart from the standard List and Report views, ERPNext also offers Gantt, Kanban, and Calendar views for Tasks. These can be accessed from the Task List via the left sidebar.

Purpose of Project Views

Task views help teams visualize project execution from different perspectives such as timelines, workflow stages, and scheduled deadlines, improving planning and decision-making.

Gantt View

The Gantt View is used to visualize tasks along a timeline, showing their start and end dates along with dependencies between tasks. It helps understand the execution sequence of a project.

Tasks can be dragged across the timeline, and their start and end dates are automatically updated based on the new position.

  • Displays tasks based on start and end dates.
  • Shows task dependencies and execution order.
  • Allows time range selection such as Day, Week, Month, Quarter Day, or Half Day.
  • Supports drag-and-drop scheduling for quick updates.
Gantt View Insight

The Gantt chart provides a clear visual representation of task scheduling, making it easier to manage overlapping work and dependent activities within a project.

Kanban View

The Kanban View is based on the Japanese lean manufacturing concept where tasks are represented as cards moving through different stages of execution.

In ERPNext, tasks are organized into columns based on their status, allowing users to visually track progress as tasks move from one stage to another.

  • Displays tasks as cards grouped by status.
  • Supports drag-and-drop movement between stages.
  • Helps visualize workflow progression.
  • Allows color coding for better visual tracking.
Kanban Insight

Kanban helps teams manage workflow efficiency by clearly showing which tasks are pending, in progress, or completed at any point in time.

Calendar View

The Calendar View presents tasks on a standard calendar interface, allowing users to see how tasks are distributed across days, weeks, or months.

It provides a time-based overview of scheduled work, making it easier to manage deadlines and workload distribution.

  • Displays tasks on a calendar timeline.
  • Shows planned duration of tasks visually.
  • Helps track deadlines and scheduling conflicts.
  • Useful for workload planning across time periods.
Calendar Insight

The Calendar View helps teams understand task distribution over time, ensuring better planning and avoidance of scheduling overlaps.
