Quality Goal

A Quality Goal in ERPNext is a collection of measurable quality objectives that helps an organization define, monitor, and achieve its quality management targets. It provides a structured approach to setting quality expectations and tracking performance over a specified period.

Each Quality Goal can contain multiple Quality Objectives, allowing organizations to evaluate different aspects of quality using measurable targets or completion-based criteria. These goals are monitored at predefined intervals to ensure continuous quality improvement.

How Quality Goals Work

A Quality Goal serves as the primary quality target for a business. Each goal consists of one or more quality objectives that define what needs to be achieved.

The objectives can be measured in two ways:

  • Numeric Targets – Objectives measured using numerical values such as production quantity, response time, defect percentage, or hours.
  • Completion Status – Objectives evaluated based on whether they have been completed, typically using a Yes/No status.

ERPNext monitors these objectives according to the frequency defined for the Quality Goal, enabling organizations to regularly evaluate their quality performance.

System Behavior

When a monitoring frequency is specified, ERPNext automatically creates Quality Review documents at the selected intervals. These reviews are used to record actual performance against the defined quality objectives.

How to Create a Quality Goal

Step 1: Create a New Quality Goal

Open the Quality Goal list and click New to create a new record.

Step 2: Enter the Goal Details

Provide the basic information required to define the quality goal.

  • Goal Name – Enter a descriptive name for the Quality Goal.
  • Quality Procedure – Select the Quality Procedure that will be followed to achieve the goal.
  • Created By – Specify the person responsible for creating and managing the Quality Goal.
  • Monitoring Frequency – Select how often the goal should be reviewed.

Available monitoring frequencies include:

  • Daily
  • Weekly
  • Monthly
  • Quarterly
  • None (No automatic monitoring)

Defining Quality Objectives

Each Quality Goal can include multiple objectives that collectively define the expected quality outcomes.

For every objective, specify the following information:

1. Objective

Define the individual quality objective that contributes toward achieving the overall Quality Goal.

2. Target

Specify the expected numeric target or measurable value that should be achieved for the objective.

Examples include production quantity, response time, quality score, or defect rate.

3. Unit of Measurement

Select the unit used to measure the target value.

Examples include:

  • Hours
  • Leads
  • Percentage
  • Units
  • Any other applicable measurement unit

Revision Tracking

The Revision field automatically records the number of times the Quality Goal document has been saved or updated.

This provides a simple version history, allowing organizations to track modifications made to quality goals over time.

Automatic Quality Reviews

If a monitoring frequency is configured, ERPNext periodically generates Quality Review documents automatically.

These review documents allow users to record actual performance values, compare them with predefined targets, and evaluate whether quality objectives are being achieved.

Business Benefit

Automated Quality Reviews eliminate manual follow-up activities and help organizations consistently monitor progress toward their quality objectives.
