Difference Between Lead, Customer, and Contact

Lead
A Lead is a potential customer who has shown interest in your products or services and may generate business in the future.
- Represents a prospective customer.
- Used during the initial sales qualification process.
- Can later be converted into a Customer.
Customer
A Customer is an individual or organization that has successfully completed business transactions with your company.
- Represents an existing client.
- Stores sales and transaction history.
- Can have multiple Contacts associated with it.
Contact
A Contact is an individual associated with a Customer, commonly used in business-to-business (B2B) environments where multiple people from the same organization are involved.
- Represents a specific person within a customer organization.
- Stores communication details such as phone numbers and email addresses.
- Allows multiple contacts to be maintained under a single Customer.
Converting a Lead into a Customer
Once a Lead is qualified and becomes an actual customer, it can be converted directly from the Lead document.
Steps
- Open the required Lead.
- Click the Make dropdown.
- Select Customer.
- The Customer document is created with relevant information copied from the Lead.
After conversion, the Lead status changes to Converted, and all future Opportunities can be created directly against the Customer.
