Project Settings
The Project module in ERPNext includes a set of configuration settings that control how time logging, overlap handling, and billing behave within project workflows. These settings help organizations define how strictly time entries should be validated and how billing should be generated from project activities.
By default, all of these settings are disabled, meaning ERPNext enforces strict validation for time entries and requires explicit configuration before allowing overlaps or invoice-based billing.
These settings allow businesses to control time tracking behavior, manage flexibility in workforce reporting, and enable or restrict billing based on timesheet entries depending on organizational requirements.
Available Project Settings
The Project Settings screen provides multiple controls that influence how time logs and billing are managed within ERPNext:
- Ignore Workstation Time Overlap
When enabled, ERPNext allows multiple overlapping time logs for the same workstation. This is useful in environments where workstations are shared across multiple users or parallel operations occur on the same machine. - Ignore User Time Overlap
When enabled, a single user is allowed to log overlapping time entries. This is useful in scenarios where users manage multiple activities simultaneously or log time on behalf of different teams or processes. - Ignore Employee Time Overlap
When enabled, the system allows overlapping time entries for the same employee. This is commonly used in flexible time tracking environments where strict hour validation is not required, such as HR or general activity tracking use cases. - Fetch Timesheet in Sales Invoice
When enabled, billable timesheet entries linked to projects can be automatically fetched into a Sales Invoice. This simplifies billing by converting logged time directly into invoice items.
This feature enables organizations to bill customers directly based on timesheet data, ensuring accurate invoicing for services delivered and reducing manual effort in invoice creation.
Impact of These Settings
These settings play an important role in determining how strictly ERPNext enforces time tracking rules and how seamlessly project data flows into financial processes.
- Provides flexibility in time tracking rules based on business needs.
- Supports both strict and flexible workforce reporting models.
- Enables automated billing through timesheet integration.
- Improves control over project-based invoicing and cost tracking.
