Workspace
When you log in to ERPNext, you are presented with the Desk, which serves as the primary workspace for navigating the system. The Desk includes a persistent sidebar organized into categories, with each sidebar item opening a Workspace.
A Workspace represents a module, such as CRM, Selling, Buying, or Manufacturing, and provides quick access to the tools and information required for that module.
1. Components of a Workspace
A Workspace typically consists of the following sections:
- Dashboard: Displays charts, reports, and other important metrics related to the module.
- Shortcuts: Provides quick access to frequently used transactions, masters, reports, and pages.
- Link Cards: Groups related reports, lists, and pages into organized cards for easier navigation.
2. Standard Workspace
Every ERPNext module comes with a predefined Standard Workspace that includes relevant dashboards, shortcuts, and links for that module.
You can customize a Standard Workspace by clicking the Customize Workspace option available in the top-right corner of the Workspace.
Note: Changes made through Customize Workspace are user-specific and are visible only to the user who made them.
3. Creating a Custom Workspace
In addition to the standard Workspaces, you can create your own custom Workspaces to organize frequently used pages, reports, and dashboards.
To create a Custom Workspace:
- Go to the Workspace list.
- Click New.
- Configure the Workspace using the available fields.
4. Workspace Configuration Options
- Name: Enter the name that will appear in the sidebar.
- Module: Select the module to which the Workspace belongs.
- Is Standard: Enable this option to make the Workspace appear in the sidebar. If disabled, it is treated as a customized version of an existing Workspace.
- Extends Another Page: Enable this option if the Workspace should extend or customize an existing Workspace.
- Is Default: Makes this Workspace the default page displayed for the selected module.
- Dashboard: Add a dashboard that will appear at the top of the Workspace.
- Shortcuts: Add links to frequently used reports, lists, documents, or pages.
- Link Cards: Create cards that group together related reports, lists, and pages for easier navigation.
