Change Password in ERPNext

The Change Password feature in ERPNext allows users to update their account passwords and helps System Managers reset passwords for other users when required. Maintaining strong passwords is an important part of securing ERPNext accounts and protecting company data.

Every user can change their own password, while users with the System Manager role can reset passwords for themselves as well as other users.

How to Change a Password

Follow these steps to update an existing user’s password:

  1. Go to the User List.
  2. Open the user record whose password needs to be changed.
  3. Navigate to the Settings section.
  4. Expand the Change Password section.
  5. Enter the new password.
  6. Save the document.

ERPNext evaluates the password as you type and indicates whether it is Weak or Strong.

Password Strength Validation

To improve account security, ERPNext analyzes the complexity of the password being entered.

The password strength indicator helps users create secure passwords by evaluating factors such as:

  • Password length
  • Uppercase and lowercase characters
  • Numbers
  • Special characters
  • Overall complexity

A stronger password provides better protection against unauthorized access.

Who Can Change Passwords?

ERPNext supports different levels of password management based on user roles.

  • Regular Users can change their own passwords.
  • System Managers can change their own passwords and reset passwords for other users.

This allows administrators to assist users who have forgotten their passwords while maintaining centralized control over account security.

Best Practices for Password Security

To keep ERPNext accounts secure, consider the following recommendations:

  • Use strong and unique passwords.
  • Avoid using personal information in passwords.
  • Include a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters.
  • Change passwords periodically.
  • Do not share passwords with other users.
  • Enable additional security measures such as Two-Factor Authentication where available.

Strong passwords significantly reduce the risk of unauthorized access and data breaches.
